Beatrice Garland, an award-winning poet, wanted a website to showcase her work and information about herself. The design of the site was very important to her. We developed the design together, trying various inspirations for the background and fine tuning the colour scheme and balancing the typography. Here are some snapshots of the process:
Our first visual was based on discussions with Beatrice about her preferred style and colours. I chose one of Beatrice’s photographs of a sparkler to create the background. After feedback we reduced the size of the name, tried a different photograph as a basis for the background, altered type styles and colours.
A third background was created using another photograph but although Beatrice liked it she felt it was too specific to one poem and not right for the whole site. We tried a new direction with lighter colours and a new more generic background.
Beatrice sent me this photograph which she felt had something in it that might work. The new background we created based on this photograph worked well and after a bit of adjustment to the colours we had a design that Beatrice was very happy with.
This site was built in WordPress and Beatrice is able to add/remove and edit her pages as required. View site: www.beatricegarland.co.uk
